Conditions at Ho Municipal dumpsite improved

Waste Landfills Company Limited, a waste disposal and related services provider, has undertaken works to improve conditions at the Ho Municipal Dumpsite at Klefe in the Volta Region.

The activity took place during the National Sanitation Day exercise for March organised last weekend.

A spray gang from the company used a bulldozer to flatten, spread, compact and spray the heap of rubbish already deposited and the one that was brought in.

The company also sprayed communities around the dumpsite in order to rid the area of harmful insects and pests.

Landfill needs attention

The General Manager of the company, Mr Peter Kwei Dagadu, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said it was important that dumpsites or landfill sites, as final repositories for waste, were given the needed attention.

He said municipal, metropolitan, and district assemblies (MMDAs) risked losing gains they had made with regard to sanitation if measures were not put in place to provide and maintain final disposal sites for solid waste.

Support

He said the company, as part of its mandate, would continue to service its landfill sites to ensure that they were safe and environmentally friendly.

He pledged his company’s support to the cause of the National Sanitation Day. In connection with this, Waste Landfills Company Limited would provide equipment and personnel at all dumpsites during the national clean-up exercises and ensure their success.
