In line with that, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has deployed more than 60,000 pre-paid meters to its Nsawam offices for the replacement exercise to begin next month.

The exercise, which is under the Distribution System Loses Reduction and Associated Network Improvement Project (DSLRANIP) of the ECG, is aimed at reducing losses incurred by the company through the use of the post-paid meters.

It is also meant to improve upon services and minimise theft of power.

The new meters come with interface mechanisms that will enable consumers to determine the amount of power they spend.

The project has already been implemented in communities such as Teshie-Nungua and Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region.

Sensitisation workshop

To ensure a successful exercise, the ECG last Thursday organised a sensitisation workshop for chiefs and opinion leaders in Nsawam-Adoagyiri and its adjoining communities to help educate the residents about the upcoming exercise.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra West Regional ECG, Mr Eric Kweku Asante, explained that the objective of the project was to enable the company to reduce losses in revenue.

He added that the new system would enable the ECG to monitor the operations of the meters effectively.

According to the PRO, the new meters would be distributed to the customers free of charge, adding that residents who might need separate metres could also apply.
