Dubbed, "Stock Your Library", the project is one of the initiatives introduced by the company as part of its corporate social responsibility to mark its 25 years of operation in Ghana and the West African sub-region.

On the theme: “Addressing Ghana's literacy and reading challenges through private sector participation”, the project also forms part of EPP’s commitment to play its role in the academic development of Ghanaians in general through the stocking of libraries and the provision of learning materials, free of charge, to enhance teaching and learning.

Right to education

In an address read on his behalf to launch the project in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of EPP Books, Alhaji Dr Gibrine Adam, said notwithstanding one’s background, each child deserved and should be able to achieve his or her full potential through education.

On how the project was going to be executed, he hinted that the selection of schools would be carefully done to meet the exact needs of schools that truely deserved a helping hand.

That, he said, would be carried out with the support of and expert assistance from its supporters and advisors, adding that every school that deserved "our assistance will be supported. We have no limits".

Understand the use of the books

Launching the project, the Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, lauded EPP Books for its support to education in the country.

She said the government had done a lot in terms of providing quality education in the country, adding that the project would go a long way to improve and strengthen the educational system.

She urged EPP Books to not only select schools with libraries but also be innovative to put the books in metal boxes, so that children could have access to them.

Provide training

The President of the Ghana Library  Association, Professor Perpetual Dadzie, said the association had partnered with Biblonef Ghana to provide training for some teachers on how to manage the books and sustain pupils’ interest in reading and library activities.

She also appealed to corporate organisations and institutions to support the effort of EPP Books by donating 40-footer containers which would be redesigned to house the materials donated to schools that did not have proper library facilities.
