Zoomlion presents refuse trucks, tricycles to UER assemblies

He noted that efforts at ensuring good sanitation practices in the region would come to naught if the Zoomlion authorities did not collaborate effectively with the local leaders  to change residents’ behaviour which constituted the greatest challenge to ensuring environmental cleanliness.

Mr Abongo stated this during the presentation of 132 motor tricycles and five refuse trucks to the 13 district assemblies in  the region.

While all the 13 assemblies will receive motor tricycles, the Talensi, Bolgatanga, Bongo, Garu and  Kasena-Nankana municipal assemblies are beneficiaries of the five refuse trucks.

Rid areas of filth

The minister further called on the various assemblies to "renew their commitment to rid their respective areas of filth.

"You must therefore use your environmental health units to complement the efforts of Zoomlion in meeting their sanitation targets," he stressed.

Mr Abongo further urged the assemblies to be more proactive towards sanitation issues and find ways of prosecuting recalcitrant persons who continue to make their surroundings dirty.

He entreated the assemblies to take good care of the tricycles and refuse trucks and to avoid misusing them.

"The Regional Coordinating Council recognises the genuine strides by Zoomlion in the sanitation business and will continue to partner it for clean environment and good health of residents in the region,"he stated.

Zoomlion commended

Mr Abongo commended Zoomlion for successfully partnering the government to create 250,000 jobs for Ghanaians over the years in addition to building their capacities in assembling and repairing equipment meant for sanitation management.

"I am reliably informed that the company had a gender programme where women are trained in the operation of heavy duty machinery, which traditionally had been the preserve of men," he observed.

The Deputy General Manager of the company in the Upper East Region, Mr Issaka Abubakari, noted that with the provision of the facilities, non-performing stakeholders in the various districts would not have any excuse.

He pledged his outfit’s commitment to continue supporting the National Sanitation Day exercise as well as ensuring quality service delivery to its clients, including those in the government sector.
