First Lady gets ‘Ghana Card’
The first Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo on Thursday, June 7, 2018, received her National Identification Card dubbed “Ghana Card”.
Speaking to the media after she had received it she said the identification system was very unique because it presented a historic opportunity for the country to sanitise and rationalise birth certification to ensure social inclusion right from birth.
She said the identification system would help modernise and formalise the Ghanaian economy through the establishment of a credible national database.
“It is expected that the centralised database should therefore bring to an end the proliferation of biometric systems by other government agencies because upon completion, they will all access information from the National Identification System,” Mrs Akufo-Addo indicated.
She called on Ghanaians, especially women and children, to take advantage of the diverse opportunities the new identification system presented and register.
