Former Defence Chief, others nominated for awards
A former Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen. Augustine Peter Blay; the Chairman of Berock Ventures Limited, Noble Rockson Dogbegah, and the Managing Director of Montessori School, Pedu, Cape Coast, Mrs Diana Kumi Bruce, are among 16 others who have been nominated for this year’s The New Ghanaian (TNG) Pillars of Modern Ghana Awards.

The awards, on the theme, “Integrity, the Springboard to Success”, will be chaired by the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Noble Peter Azuma, while the guest of honour is the new Local Government Minister, Mr Julius Debrah.
Pillars of modern Ghana are individuals and corporate bodies that have contributed to make modern Ghana what it is today.
Lt Gen. Blay is being honoured for his meritorious service to Ghana in the area of defence and security, while Noble Dogbegah was nominated as a strong pillar in the civil engineering and construction sub-sector in Ghana in the Outstanding Male Achievers category.
Other nominees
Mrs Bruce was nominated under the category of Female Achievers as a Pillar in Quality Education in Ghana.
A statement issued in Accra said some establishments on the bill for awards at the Volta Hotel, Akosombo, on June 19, 2014 were B5 Plus Limited, Zein Security Limited, Gateway Services Limited, Morgan International Community School at Gomoa Manso, the Trust Hospital and Unity Oil Company.
Others are Ideal College, Royal Hospital, Ho, One Plus Furniture City Limited, Blue Crest College (NIIT), Liberty Preparatory School, Tabora, Accra, St Andrew’s Senior High School, Assin-Foso, and Virtue International School, Accra.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the TNG, Dr Dee Otibu-Asare, the Pillars of Modern Ghana Awards were instituted seven years ago by the publication to recognise Ghanaians, foreign residents and companies in Ghana which had contributed immensely to the economic development of the country.
“In furtherance of the magazine’s strategic objectives, we regularly provide the platform for recognition, promotion and celebration of corporate entities and individuals of sublime achievements whose undertakings are of strategic importance to the development of Ghana,” it added.
