Each of the senior citizens and retirees was presented with a full piece of cloth as a present for their contributions over the years towards the development of the Tema metropolis.

Various categories of retirees were, in addition, presented with double door refrigerators, sound systems, flat-screen TVs, blenders, gas cookers, cash and citations.

All former chief executive officers of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly were also recognised for their dedication to work. Those present at the ceremony included Nii Armah Ashitey and Mr Emmanuel Adjei Annan. Also in attendance were past directors and heads of departments and agencies of the assembly.

In his welcome address, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, commended the senior citizens for their contributions, hard work, dedication and commitment to the development of the society.

He said he was hopeful that the event would inspire the younger generation to emulate the examples of the senior citizens and retirees.

Solidarity message

The Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey and former Chief Executive Officer of the TMA, Nii Armah Ashitey, expressed his joy that the hard work that was put in years ago had been sustained till present time.

He urged workers of the assembly to continue to give their best in order to boost revenue that was generated internally by the assembly. He said when this was done it would enable the assembly to undertake development initiatives in the metropolis without difficulty.

Mr Odamtten expressed his gratitude to civil society organisations and corporate bodies that contributed to make the occasion a memorable one.

Appreciation

Mrs Hayford Darko expressed her appreciation to the TMA for recognising the contributions of senior citizens and retirees to the development of Tema.

She advised the youth to take a cue from the positive attitudes of the elderly and strive to work hard and also show respect to the aged.
