It said as the hospital was located within its jurisdiction, it was ready to work within its means to put smiles on the faces of the management and inmates of the hospital.

Donation

The President of the association, Nii Samuel Adjetey Mohenu, said this when he led members of the association to present items worth over GH¢2,000 to the hospital.

The items included bags of rice, tubers of yam, cooking oil, a mini-bag of maize, detergents, toilet rolls and cartons of Key bar soap.

The presentation, which is an annual programme, enables the chiefs to interact with the management of the hospital and listen to their concerns.

Nii Mohenu, who is also the Abokobi Mantse, said, “we, the chiefs are mindful of the fact that there is a hospital here and the patients here are being cared for by you. We cannot live here and attempt to forget that there are some people here on admission.”

He said even though the donation might be small, the idea behind it was what was important,” adding that they were in the hospital "to show love to both the patients and management of the hospital.”

Prayer

Nii Mohenu prayed for the staff of the hospital and asked God to grant them wisdom, love and patience to be able to handle both the inmates and the out-patients in the hospital.

Gratitude

Receiving the items, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Anna Dzadey, expressed gratitude to the chiefs for not only donating to the hospital, "but also coming here yourselves is reassuring and refreshing".

Mental patients

She reminded the chiefs of their crucial role in integrating patients treated and discharged by the hospital back into the society.

Dr Dzadey said some of the patients were left stranded by their families because they did not want them back.

The Pantang Hospital is one of the major referral centres for mental cases.

Dr Dzadey appealed to the chiefs to impress on the people to take back into their fold relatives who had been discharged.
