Ablekuma Central Education Directorate celebrates 5th anniversary

The Ablekuma Central Municipal Education Directorate has commemorated its 5th anniversary with a renewed pledge to advance quality education through deliberate strategic efforts.

The anniversary celebration, climaxed last Tuesday, was on the theme: “Celebrating Our Gains, Advancing with Strategy”.

It brought together key stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs), religious leaders, traditional leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students.

It also saw the presentation of awards to some individuals, teachers, non-teaching staff and students for their outstanding performance towards education in the municipality.

To educators

Delivering the keynote address, the Parish Priest of St Andrew Anglican Church, Rev. Canon Dr Patrick Okaijah Bortier, underscored education as a non-negotiable factor in human development.

He urged education leaders to remain adaptable, open to feedback, and committed to continuous improvement.

“We must never become static. Leaders lead until there is nothing left to lead, and must always seek new challenges to solve,” he said.

Rev. Canon Bortier further advocated a collaborative and inclusive approach to educational planning, encouraging team engagement and focus groups to brainstorm solutions across thematic areas such as gender, learning improvements and infrastructure.

MCE’s commitment

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Assembly, Frank Kwame Nkansah, lauded the directorate’s commitment to education.

Recounting efforts by the assembly to support educational development within the municipality, he said it had collaborated closely with the education unit to address key infrastructural deficits and complete ongoing projects, including the construction of a clinic on the Salvation Army School compound, classroom blocks, a library at Laterbiokorshie Cluster of Schools and an ICT laboratory, which will all be equipped and made operational.

Mr Nkansah revealed that 10 per cent of the Municipal Common Fund had been dedicated to the construction of educational facilities, spanning kindergartens to junior high schools.

The MCE stated that the Assembly planned to establish a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School within the municipality, in collaboration with the education directorate.

The Municipal Director of Education, Monica Ansaba Kumahor, expressed gratitude to the staff, teachers and stakeholders for their collective efforts in enhancing education delivery.

She described the past five years as transformational, marked by improvements in infrastructure, curriculum delivery and inclusiveness.

“We have cultivated a passionate and highly skilled workforce of educators who continue to inspire and transform lives,” she said.

She said strategic planning would remain the bedrock of the directorate’s approach moving forward, with a focus on deepening teacher development, leveraging technology for inclusive learning, prioritising student welfare and mental health, and strengthening partnerships with local authorities and faith-based organisations.
