Abronye case adjourned to July 14 for prosecution to file disclosures

The Accra Circuit Court has adjourned to July 14, 2026, the case involving the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to enable the prosecution to file its disclosures.

The court, presided over by  Joseph Yennuban Kunsong on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, granted the request and reminded the prosecution to file the disclosures within 14 days when the prosecution, led by ASP Raymond Ackom, who held brief for Emmanuel Nyamekye, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable it to comply with an earlier order directing it to file disclosures in the matter.

Abronye is facing one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace and one count of publication of false news.

Proceedings record

Before the adjournment, counsel for Abronye, Daniel Amartey Addo, raised concerns over what he said was an omission in the record of proceedings from an earlier sitting.

“In counsel's recollection, having conference with my client, it appears what we heard in court was not fully captured on the record as we received,” he said.

He said the defence team heard the court indicate that the accused person had initially been remanded into prison custody and later into BNI custody after a prayer by counsel until the final determination of the matter.

The court, however, disagreed with the submission, clarifying that there was nowhere in the records that the accused person should be remanded into BNI custody until the final determination of the matter.

Earlier ruling

To clarify the issue, the judge read portions of the ruling delivered at the previous sitting.

According to the court, Abronye had been denied bail and remanded into BNI custody until the next adjourned date and not until the final determination of the case.

The court also recalled that the prosecution had been ordered to file disclosures within 14 days and the matter adjourned to May 27, 2026.

High Court

Meanwhile, an application filed by Abronye at the Accra High Court was also adjourned.

The court indicated that it had been served with an affidavit in opposition only a few minutes before proceedings commenced.

Counsel for Abronye, Mr Amartey Addo, told the court: “We are entirely in your hands.”

The court adjourned the application to June 4, 2026.
