Akyem Kotoku residents urged to maintain peace

Two chiefs in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area have urged the people in the area to strive to sustain the prevailing peace, unity and stability in the area to accelerate progress.

The chiefs told the people to refrain from all negative acts that gave rise to the 26 years of chieftaincy disputes that divided the people and hindered the development of the traditional area.

The Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku, Obrempong Gyamfi Safo Kyere II and the Nifahene, Obrempong Tabi Anom, made the call at the coronation of Nana Dr Kwasi Sasu IV as the Awosohene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area at a grand ceremony at Oda last weekend.

The Awosohene is the custodian of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council armoury.

Obrempong Safo Kyere advised the people to always talk about peace and unity in all their deliberations and take an active interest in activities that would speed up the development of the area.

He urged the Awosohene to also strive to serve the people with humility and not to lord it over them.

The Krontihene enjoined him to encourage the well-to-do from the area and non-governmental organisations to set up industries in the area, to absorb the teeming unemployed youth in the area and to also improve the local economy.

Charge

Nana Tabi Anom, who is also the Akyem Anamasehene, charged the Awosohene to run an open-door administration and treat all manner of people equally without discrimination.

He advised the people not to undermine the new chief but to offer him constructive criticism for him to discharge his duties perfectly.

In his maiden speech, the Awosohene, Nana Dr Sasu, said his doors were open for all and sundry to approach him for the solution of their problems.

He promised to mobilise all available human and material resources to develop the traditional area.

Nana Sasu also called for peace and unity to prevail in the area.
