Richard Quaye Food Bank to feed vulnerable for free

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Richard Nii Amarh Quaye (RNAQ) Foundation, has set up a nationwide Food Bank initiative designed to provide one free hot meal a day to underserved members of the public.

An initiative of businessman and angel investor Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the programme begins with four fully operational centres across high-need communities in Accra.

The locations have been carefully selected for their population density and need.

The food banks to be officially launched on August 1 this year will serve freshly prepared and cooked meals, rather than distributing raw food or unprocessed food items.

Meals will be sourced from local food vendors to ensure both nutritional quality and community empowerment.

Mr Quaye said he would scale up the project over the long term, with the ultimate vision to expand the food banks across multiple regions, eventually reaching every part of the country.

Beneficiaries

The primary beneficiaries are low-income individuals, families in high-stress areas, street children, the elderly, and anyone facing temporary food insecurity.

By offering this basic human need freely, the Founder of Bills MicroCredit and Quick Angels, now President of RNAQ Holdings, said the initiative would not only fight hunger but restore dignity and hope to beneficiaries.

"Like Abraham Maslow, who placed food as a fundamental need in his Hierarchy of Needs, I believe all of us see access to food as a basic human right," Mr Quaye said.

“The Food Bank Project reflects my lifelong commitment to uplifting as many Ghanaians as possible, ensuring no one is left behind,” he added.

Rooted in the personal mission of its founder, Mr Quaye said the Food Bank Project would partner local food retailers to establish accessible food distribution hubs across the country.

The Food Bank Project marks a significant milestone for the foundation following Richard Nii Amarh Quaye’s recent transition from his role as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bills MicroCredit and Chairman and CEO of Quick Angels.

Under his leadership, Bills grew from a start-up, founded in 2011, into a cornerstone of Ghana’s microfinance sector, disbursing over GH¢7.5 billion in loans to Ghanaians, eventually empowering the informal and financially underserved economy.

Similarly, Quick Angels, an institutional angel investment firm founded in 2019, has nurtured over 20 businesses, including household names such as Pizzaman, Chickenman, Gold Coast Foods and Spices, Ridge Medical Centre, Tigon Creative Studios, Lynx Group Limited, Pinkberry and Burger King.
