IGP wishes 7,500 Chief Inspectors taking Police Academy exam well

Having received the green light from the Police Administration, 7,500 Chief Inspectors across the country will tomorrow take part in the Police Competitive Promotional Examination (PCPE) as they seek an opportunity for promotion.

The examination will take place at three centres in Accra, and it is part of the process by the Police Administration to nurture a new crop of senior police officers.

In an earlier circular, the Police Administration stated that "candidates are to note that out of the total number writing the examinations, the first 700 in order of merit will be selected to constitute Cadet Course 54 and Cadet Course 55 respectively."

Per the Police Service Regulations (CI 76), all those who have been given special recommendation by the Police Administration as well as those with direct entry by virtue of their academic background are eligible candidates into the Police Academy.

Yesterday, the candidates underwent a briefing, orientation and other examination-related formalities facilitated by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) at the National Police Training School grounds.

All candidates have also been supplied with an orientation guide to help guide them on the rules and regulations for the examination.

Merit-based exercise

Ahead of the examination, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno admonished all the candidates to put in their maximum efforts to be able to meet the pass mark.

He stated that the examination would be based solely on merit to be able to select only qualified candidates into the Police Academy this year.

The IGP was reacting to some rumours about favouritism in the upcoming examination during an interview with the Daily Graphic.

While debunking such assertions, he encouraged the candidates to study hard and observe all the rules and regulations regarding the examination.

"On behalf of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council, I wish all the candidates well in this year's examination.

"All candidates are to note that the administration does not have any hand in the selection process.

It is only your performance that will speak for you. So put in all your best.

"Nobody from anywhere is going to favour anybody ahead of anyone.

So don't listen to all the rumours. Just concentrate on your studies, and if you are able to meet the pass mark, you will be given the opportunity," he said.

High stakes

Mr Yohuno stated that he was aware of the high stakes due to the large number of candidates involved.

"You cannot blame anyone because all the candidates are qualified.

However, we all know that we cannot take these huge numbers at once," he added.
