Nana Letsabi II legitimate Chief of Santrokofi — Judicial Committee
The Paramount Chief of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, Nana Letsabi II, has called on all citizens of the area to unite for peace to prevail and foster rapid development.
This, he said, would encourage the young generation to grow up thinking and identifying themselves as one ethnic people.
Nana Letsabi II was speaking at a victory durbar following his affirmation as the legitimate Paramount Chief of the area at Santrokofi-Benua in the Oti Region last Saturday.
He told the citizens to build relationships towards reconciliation for the development of the area.
Presenting the background of the case, the Spokesperson Nana Simpim said for the past 14 years, the Santrokofi Traditional Area had been thrown into confusion due to litigation over who was the rightful chief.
He said the case was taken to the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) for redress, after which Nana Letsabi II was declared the legitimate Paramount Chief of the area.
The Judicial Committee of the VRHC said the application brought before it lacked merit since Nana Letsabi II, who was duly nominated, elected, enstooled and gazetted in 1977, had been accepted by all five royal clans that were entitled to the Paramountcy on a rotational basis.
Not satisfied with the dismissed application brought before the Judicial Committee of the VRHC, he said, one party forwarded the case on appeal to the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) in 2014.
On May 7, this year, Nana Simpim said the Judicial Committee of the NHC dismissed the appeal and explained that the Nana Letsabi Stool had been proclaimed Paramount Stool since 1957 and that Opanin Adjei Dagadu Family of Gbodome is the Senaahene of the area.
The Member of Parliament for the Guan Constituency, Fred Kwasi Agbenyo, stressed the need for the people to put aside all divisive considerations and contribute towards rapid development.
Mr Agbenyo expressed satisfaction that the legal battle did not degenerate in a manner that disturbed the peaceful coexistence that had prevailed over the past 14 years and urged them to unite for peace to accelerate development.
