VPS Healthcare to collaborate with healthcare institutions

A multi-national healthcare organisation, VPS Healthcare, has initiated moves to partner with private and government hospitals in the country to facilitate access to specialised tertiary healthcare services.

The areas of partnership include cardiology, neurosurgery, kidney function, brain and nervous system care and urology involving treatment of the urinary tract system and the male reproductive organ.

Spearheading this initiative from VPS Healthcare is a team of medical specialists from India and Dubai who will arrive in the country and work from Friday, July 12 to Saturday, July 13 this year and will offer the public an opportunity to access advanced healthcare diagnosis and treatments related to the brain, heart and kidney.

Follow-ups

The team of cardiologists, neurosurgeons and urologists will be consulting at the Sunshine Healthcare Centre at the Airport Residential Area in Accra between 8 a.m and 7 p.m during the two-day stay.

The Group Director of VPS Healthcare, Dr Sabnivise Gopinath, told the Daily Graphic that brain, heart and kidney-related diseases were the leading causes of death in Africa which was why as part of the company’s service to humanity, it was bringing a top team to Ghana to build a relationship with Ghana's health sector.

"Africa is very close to our heart always and basically, we want to grow in this market.

What we are planning to do in Africa is to closely get in touch with government ministries and all major government hospitals and we are also very keen to put our expertise at the people’s disposal," Dr Gopinath said.

He said VPS Healthcare and its specialists aimed to help fill the shortage in expert care in Ghana's health sector.

According to him, all major operations involving organ transplant, including kidney transplant, were carried out by surgeons who unfortunately were in short supply in Ghana because many of the specialists here were moving to other countries.

“Unfortunately in this country, talents in the medical fields are missing as they are all moving out to other countries.

We are trying as a result to fill the gap created by bringing down our doctors periodically to perform critical operations in association with hospitals here.

“The medical specialists from VPS will also frequent the country to do follow-ups on patients,” he said.

Long-term relationship

According to him, VPS Healthcare, in association with Sunshine Healthcare, was looking forward to making provision for individuals to get free second opinion from VPS Healthcare experts.

Dr Gopinath said VPS was hoping to establish a long-term relationship with Ghana, adding that the company would soon set up highly specialised departments with major government hospitals in Ghana as means to augment medical skills, technology and funding in the country’s healthcare sector.

"We'll set up super specialised departments as we go forward in places here and our doctors will come and operate in shifts.

“Then we'll also have a kind of exchange programme where we'll take people from here and give them sufficient training," he added.
