VRA begins stakeholder engagement ahead of spillage
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has begun early stakeholder engagement with those affected by last year’s spillage as it predicts another rise in the water level of the Akosombo Dam.

Unlike last year, the spillage is to cover a long period of time so that the volume of water that will be spilled in a day will be minimal and would not cause any havoc.
The President’s nominee for the position of minister of state at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, disclosed this to the Appointments Committee, of Parliament last Tuesday.
In spite of an earlier boycott of sitting by the Minority Caucus, the committee which was made up mainly of the Majority side, engaged the nominee on a number of national issues.
He said unlike the one-off spillage, the VRA had learnt lessons from last year’s incident and had decided to stagger it.
According to him, the spillage is necessary to protect the integrity of the dam.

Touching on the current state of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), the nominees who is currently a deputy minister of the same ministry, said the company was operating at a sub-optimal level.
He said the challenges of the organisation were twofold, internal and external. Internally, he said TOR needed re-engineering and reorganisation to boost investor confidence while the external was mainly about financing.
The former deputy minister of Trade and Industry said TOR needed capital injection to make it vibrant again. He announced that the ministry was working with the Ministry of Finance to attract a strategic partner to turn TOR around.
