Ghana reduces University of Memphis scholarship debt to $1.35million

The University of Memphis (UofM) says Ghana has reduced its outstanding tuition debt for students from Ghana studying on campus, lowering the balance to $1.35 million after a recent payment.

The country owed more than $3 million for its tuition.

Back in July, UofM’s President, Bill Hardgrave, told Action News 5 the students had until Aug. 9 to make some payment.

Earlier this month, the University confirmed the government of Ghana paid a $1 million so the students who are on scholarship could stay on campus.

On Tuesday, UofM told Action News 5, the country paid another million dollars toward the balance.

The college says the $1.35 million is due October 15.
