The two-day photo exhibition seeks to showcase historical pictures covered by Graphic over Ghana’s 60 years journey since independence. It is on the theme: “60 years of independence through the lens of Graphic.”

The programme is to help Ghanaians reflect on the memories of events that took place before and after independence. It forms part of Graphic’s contribution to the Ghana a 60 celebrations.

Some of the invited guests are people in the pictures that would be exhibited, which would be a great platform for them to reflect on the past. Some of the pictures will be sold.

According to the Corporate Communications Manager of GCGL, Mr Emmanuel Arthur, the programme would be an annual event to showcase most of the pictures in archives, since not all would be exhibited during the period.

Storytelling

The Photo Editor of GCGL, Mr Douglas Anane-Frimpong, who would explain the stories behind the pictures at the exhibition, noted that the over 100 pictures that would be exhibited cut across every aspect of Ghana’s history.

“The pictures are a summation of every landmark, political, entertainment, sports and religious events that had passed through the lens of Graphic. We are not focusing on particular individuals or political era,” he said.

He also disclosed that there would be pictures of prominent people such as the Queen of England and presidents who visited Ghana, such as Presidents Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama, George Bush and Nelson Mandela.

Mr Anane-Frimpong also asked the public to visit the exhibition venue to see pictures of landmark events that had taken place before and after Ghana’s independence.

“It is an opportunity to also own the pictures and show them to your children,” he explained.
