Help make living safe — IGP

 Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP)The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, has asked civil society groups to assist the police to ensure that the country is safe for everyone.

He also said the police could not be everywhere every time, hence the need for all stakeholders to collaborate to make the country safe.

Mr Alhassan was addressing the passing-out parade of the first batch of 140 police personnel drawn from various units in the country for specialised training at the Ho Police Training Depot on Friday.

He said the ever-changing world demanded an ever-changing strategy by security personnel to counteract the sophisticated, violent crimes and terrorism that had was prevalent in the world today.

He said the nation could not pretend to be unconcerned, particularly when crime had assumed dimensions that imposed many challenges on law enforcement agencies.

The IGP said the police administration, for its part, would initiate training programmes that would ensure that personnel were abreast of the changing and difficult challenges.

He told the officers that as the first batch of the specialised trained personnel, they would be monitored closely to ensure that the skills and capabilities imparted to them were not abused but used to promote the security of citizens.

In an address, the Director-General of Operations and Commissioner of the Ghana Police Service, Mr John Kudalor, said the police institution was part of the global village and so they should be adequately informed of new developments on the global scene hence the need for the personnel to adopt strategies that would enable them to combat any challenges that may occur.
