Selected streets earmarked for the project were the Residency road, Jerry Art Works to OLA, Mount Zion Street, Dome — Housing, Ray Makosa-Freedom Hotel, Ring Road, Ahoe Roundabout — Top Oil filling station —Residence Junction, OLA-Donorkordzi and Ahoe roundabout — KK House Junction-Barracks Gate.

So far, the Residency Road, Jerry Arts Works to OLA, Mount Zion street, Dome-Housing street have been coated with asphalt.

Project in two phases

The Volta Regional Director of the Department of Urban Roads, Mr Prosper Anornu, told the Daily Graphic that a total of 25km had been earmarked for the project, with 15km to be executed under the first phase and the remaining 10km under a second phase.

He said auxiliary works after the asphalting project would be awarded for total completion of the project and allayed the fears of the public to remain calm because quality work was being executed.

It would be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama announced that the roads in the Ho, Hohoe and Keta townships would be given asphalt coating.

The Ho work had then started in earnest and he expressed the hope that that of Hohoe and Keta would start very soon.

The President said the government would asphalt more urban roads in regional and district capitals to spare it the agony of carrying out routine maintenance, adding that although road asphalting was more expensive, it was cost-effective because its lifespan could be 10 to 15 years.
