Kantamanto Market leadership breaks away from GUCDA and Importers Association

The leadership of Kantamanto Market has officially withdrawn from the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association (GUCDA), the Importers Association, and other groups linked to the secondhand clothing trade, declaring that they alone represent traders within the market.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, and signed by 13 section leaders, the group clarified that retailers, upcyclers, shoe sellers, and other traders in Kantamanto will be represented solely by the internal market leadership.

“We are independent of GUCDA, the Importers Association, and any other body within the used clothing industry,” the statement read.

“We are the duly recognised voices of Kantamanto Market.”

The decision follows concerns over alleged misrepresentation by external associations and was reinforced by the recent fire that devastated parts of the market on January 2, prompting a stronger push for independent leadership.

The leaders urged all stakeholders to engage with them directly to ensure clear and accurate representation of market affairs.
