A statement issued by the UG asked students to report on the re-opening date for teaching to begin on Monday, September 8, 2014.

The University of Cape Coast, in a statement, asked all fresh students to report on Monday, September 8, 2014 prior to their orientation from Tuesday, September 9, to Wednesday, September 10, 2014 .

It said registration of courses for fresh students would begin on Thursday, September 11, 2014 to Saturday, September 13, 2014.

“Online registration of courses by continuing students starts from Monday, September 8 to Sunday, September 14, 2014, the statement said

It asked continuing students to report on Saturday, September 13 for lectures to begin on Monday, September 15, 2014.

It added that supplementary (re-sit)

end-of-semester examinations would take place from Monday, September 29, 2014 to Friday, October 3, 2014.

“Fresh students are to report at the Porter’s Lodges of the Halls of Residence indicated in their admission letters,” the statement added.

The University of Ghana was due to re-open on August 13, 2014 but the government shifted the reopening date to August 27, 2014 to allow universities take  measures to contain any possible Ebola outbreak.

The University of Cape Coast was also to reopen on August 9, 2014 for freshers and August 15, 2014 for continuing students.

But UTAG declared its strike on July 24, 2014 until the the association signed an MOU to call off its strike on Monday, September 2, 204.

The association embarked on a strike a couple of weeks ago as a result of a decision by the government to not pay their book and research allowance for the 2013/2014 academic year.

However, the government, at a crunch meeting with UTAG yesterday, finally agreed to pay the allowance, bringing the impasse to an end for the lecturers to return to the classrooms.

Currently, the book allowance stands at $1,500 per lecturer per year, while the research component stands at GH¢400.
