The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has inaugurated the new Board of Directors of the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) Limited, urging them to rescue the struggling state enterprise and spearhead Ghana’s vision of adding value to cocoa.
He stressed that cocoa remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy, describing it as a critical cash crop that must be leveraged strategically. However, he noted that CPC currently faces daunting financial, operational, marketing, and distribution challenges that threaten its viability.
The Deputy Minister cautioned that the culture of awarding bonuses to management and staff of state-owned enterprises in the face of losses was no longer acceptable, insisting that accountability and performance must define the company’s operations moving forward.
On behalf of the board, Mr Gregory Quarshie expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Finance Minister for the confidence reposed in them. He assured that the new leadership would work relentlessly to ensure CPC delivers a turnaround and tells “a different and more successful story” by the end of its mandate.
