The presentation was to assist district assemblies to prepare for the clean-up exercise to be held today, January 3, 2015.

The event is in honour of the Asantehene.

Key officials from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development have been working feverishly in Kumasi for the past two weeks, as part of efforts to make the exercise a success.

Receiving the items, Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended the government for initiating the sanitation day, but insisted that cleanliness should be a personal responsibility.

He said the cost of seeking medical care for oneself and one’s relatives, should be enough lesson for people to keep their environment clean.

He urged all members of the public to get involved in the exercise to make it successful.

He commended the ministry for the bins and expressed the hope that the waste collected during the exercise would be evacuated.

The Asantehene said with the establishment of the compost plant in the region, most people would be able to generate revenue from waste collection.

Mr Debrah was grateful to the Asantehene for his support towards the exercise which, he said, had been successful in the region so far.

He explained that the institution of the national sanitation day was to rekindle the spirit of environmental cleanliness among Ghanaians and urged all to constantly protect their environment.
