The programme which aimed at creating a platform for parents to spend quality playtime with their children was well attended by parents, children and guardians.

For nine hours, parents watched and aided their children to partake in healthy sporting activities and games including football, face painting, and sack race.

It was also a platform for the teachers of these children to detect and identify the weaknesses, talents and the children’s ability to innovate.

More than one hundred children were present with support from their parents and guardians.

During the funfair, children were exposed to clay moulding and guided to dry and paint their handicrafts as a means of assessing their color consciousness and ability to beautify for a purpose.

Mrs. Linda B. Dzameshie, the organiser of the programme, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of Mummy Day Care, told Graphic Online that quality leisure play time was necessary for effective education.

Mrs Dzameshie explained that education goes beyond the teaching and learning under a fixed time table, as children learn and adopt new ideas in various forms based on their ages, interests, intelligence and exposure.

“The best education method for children is an important decision that has to be made with the proper information. A lot of different education methods are available and it would be good if parents were informed about what other alternatives there are for their children's education, hence the funfair ” She added.

During the fun games, educative materials including puzzles, books, pencil cases, school bags and medals were awarded to children who came first, second and third in competitive games like musical chairs, coloring, amongst others.

Children could not hide their excitement as their expression clearly showed that they valued that quality leisure time spent with both parents and teachers.
