New Nifahene of Ejura to bring back useful customs

The New Nifahene of Ejura in the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, Nana Kwadwo Ansebie II, has given an assurance that he will assist in bringing back useful customs, practices and laws of the chieftaincy institution which have functionally degenerated over time, in order to maintain its legitimacy and reverence in the Ghanaian society.

Nana Ansebie was speaking after he had sworn the oath of allegiance to Barima Osei-Hwedie II, the Ejurahene, who is also the Adontenhene of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, at a well-attended ceremony at the Ejurahene Palace. The occasion was characterised by singing, drumming and dancing by traditional performers and was attended by a section of Ghanaians from all walks of life.

Nana Ansebie, who is also the Babasohene, was elevated to the position of Nifahene by the Ejurahene. The current Nifahene attained the position through hard work, dedication and commitment to the Ejura Stool and the development of the Ejura community.
Nana Ansebie, 62, known in private life as Commodore Osei-Sarfo (retd), is a son of the late Ejurahene, Nana Kwaku Sarfo Ababio who died and was succeeded by Barima Osei Hwedie II.

Nana Ansebie said considering that the chieftaincy institution was development-oriented, it was necessary for it to continue to play its critical role as a credible partner in development.

Under the circumstances, he said, it was pertinent that a chief rallied the people around to initiate and undertake development projects and programmes to complement government’s efforts.

He observed that government’s assistance to any community largely depended on how that community had helped itself.

Nana Ansebie noted that since farming was the major occupation of the people in Babaso, he would do everything possible to encourage farmers to improve upon their farming activities as a means of enhancing their production capacity and development.

He stated further that he would mobilise school dropouts in the traditional area to embark on various farming activities such as animal rearing, yam and maize production and other productive agricultural ventures capable of making them responsible adults in future.

Nana Ansebie promised to work to improve education in the traditional area, since education was critical in all areas.

The Ejurahene, Barima Osei-Hwedie, indicated that he would elevate any sub-chief (Adikrofo) who would work to bring development to the traditional area.

He said he believed that the Nifahene would continue to work assiduously to foster development in the area.

Other sub-chiefs who spoke at the event commended Nana Ansebie for his purposefulness and commitment to work for the good of the traditional area.

At the same ceremony, the Ejurahene elevated the 85-year-old Gyaasewahene of Ejura, Nana Kofi Amaniampong, to Atipihene.
