A non-governmental organisation, Smile Village Foundation, has built and handed over a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre to Anyako RC Primary School in the Volta Region.

Built at a cost US$100,000, the centre, which will also serve Anyako and its surrounding communities, has been equipped with more than 40 computers, a printer, scanner and other ICT equipment.

The centre is expected to serve more than 1,500 pupils and students from Anyako and its surrounding community.

Anyako is a fishing community with a population of over 3,000 residents.

At the handover ceremony, the Founder of Smile Village Foundation (SVF), Dr Quincy Attipoe, said the foundation built the centre to help address some of the problems affecting the standard of education at Anyako and its surrounding communities.

According to him, SVF planned to construct 10 ICT centres in all the 10 regions of Ghana, especially in deprived communities.

Commenting on the reasons why he decided to embark on the project, Dr Attipoe, who is a US-based dentist, said he realised the problems many communities faced after embarking on many mission trips.

“I thought of ways to help these people who may not be able to benefit from modern inventions that can help improve their well-being,” he said.

Dr Attipoe stressed the need for individuals and organisations to help the government shoulder the cost of solving some of the problems in the country, adding “it is by helping that we address these problems.”

Maintenance

Dr Attipoe said a committee had been formed to ensure that measures were put in place to protect the facility and ensure its sustainability.

The committee, he said, comprised the management of Anyako RC School, churches and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Apart from that, he said an experienced ICT supervisor had been contracted for the day-to-day management of the centre.
