A contract to this effect was signed last Wednesday between the organisers and Nielsen under which the research institution will also provide research services to aid the scoring process aimed at getting winners for each category in the awards.

Partnership

The Country Director of Nielsen, Mr Ato Micah, congratulated the organisers on the initiative and assured the public that they would provide accurate data collation and monitor the scoring processes to ensure the credibility of the awards.

Mr Richard Abbey Jnr, the Events Director, expressed his joy for the partnership and hoped that the automobile industry would participate in the awards and the Test Drive Festival.

Scoring

Mr Abbey said within each of the categories, there would be up to 21 parameters to be given a score between one and 10, with 10 being the best score possible.

According to him, the jury score would be rated 40 per cent and the public test drive rated 60 per cent, with the winner being weighted with the highest score in a category. Each vehicle’s overall score reflects its position within the class and should only be compared within its category.

The scores for each criterion would be weighted – Critical, High, Medium or Low – according to their importance to buyers.

Categories

Mr Abbey said some of the categories included Best Micro Car, Best Light Car, Best Sports Car, Best SUV, Green Car of the Year, Luxurious Car of the Year and Economy Car of the Year.

Others were Best Family Car, Best 4 By 4, Auto Company of the Year, Heavy Truck of the Year and Best Interior and Safety Award of the Year.
