The names of the suspected robbers were given as Prince Ekene, alias Okoro,29, a computer engineer, and Jerry Elijah, 38,a mechanic.
The names of the two traders, who were described by the police as unlawful receivers, were given as Basiru Zukar and Adjei Appiah.
When the two suspected robbers were paraded at the Accra Regional Police Command, they argued and blamed each other.

Couples attacked

Later the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Timothy Bonga Yoosa, briefed journalists during which he said at about 1 a.m. on June 14, a couple at Fise near Amasaman were attacked by six armed robbers.
He said the robbers, who were armed with machetes, were alleged to have scaled the wall of the couple’s house and forced open the main door with cement blocks.

“They tied the man with a piece of rope and succeeded in robbing them of a number of items and an amount of GH¢200,” he said.
Among the items stolen from the residence of the couple were one flat screen television, three mobile phones, one standing air conditioner and three lap tops.

The suspects, who went to the scene in a taxi, put the items in the couple’s Toyota Tundra pickup and drove away.
However, about 8 a.m. the next day, he said, the vehicle was found at Amasaman where it had been abandoned by the suspects and the police went for it.

Stolen items sold to traders

Police intelligence, Mr Yoosa said, led a team of investigators to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra where Zukar and Appiah were found having the three laptops, one standing air conditioner and one flat screen television which the victims identified as their stolen belongings.
Upon interrogation, Zukar confessed he had bought the items from two Nigerians who gave their names as Prince Ekene and Jerry Elijah at a cost of GH¢ 950 and led the police to the suspects.

Later, when the suspects were apprehended, Mr Yoosa said they admitted the two traders were their business partners but denied selling any item to them.

When the police searched the houses of the suspects, a VE Jetta salon car and a Mitsubishi taxi suspected to have been stolen were retrieved from them.

The vehicles were impounded but shortly after, a man who claimed ownership of the vehicles told the police he had given the vehicles to the suspects to sell for him but they relocated after taking delivery of the cars.

He urged the public to call the police emergency lines when they see suspicious vehicles and persons in their vicinities during odd hours.
“We must not leave anything to chance. It is important to note that those who are under attack cannot call the police for assistance so neighbours should be each other’s keeper in times of distress.”
