Phone numbers that place prank calls to Ghana’s 112 emergency call centre will from Friday, March 27, 2020, be permanently blocked from reaching the centre, the Ministry of Communications has said.
The ministry, in a statement issued Thursday, March 26, 2020 said the move had become necessary due to the exponential rise in prank calls that were sent to the centre between January 28 and March 16 this year.
It said the centre recorded 1.8 million prank calls between the period, which represents 99.16 per cent of all the calls sent to the centre by the public.
