Prez Mahama in Italy for visit

President John Dramani Mahama will today hold talks with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, in Rome.

The President, will also meet with the Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi. They will discuss issues relating to economic relations and pending bilateral agreements between the two countries.

A statement from the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau said President Mahama, who left Accra for Rome yesterday, would also discuss peace and security issues on the African continent, migration and Ghana's position on the reforms in the UN Security Council.

Flag raising

On Friday, the President will perform a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate Ghana Day at the ongoing Milan Expo 2015, during which the Ghana Pavilion at the expo will host a business forum.

Besides, he will hold meetings with a number of Italian businesses with interest in Ghana.

Ghana-Italy relations

Ghana has very good diplomatic and economic relations with Italy.

With over 118 Italian companies working in Ghana, Italy is ranked 10th in terms of foreign projects registered in Ghana as of March this year.

Ghana's export to Italy reached about GH¢2.2 billion in 2012, while imports from Italy amounted to GH¢500 million.
Majority of Ghana's exports to Italy were petroleum products.

President Mahama, who returns home on Saturday, is accompanied by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah (Dr); the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and the Secretary to the President, Ambassador Kwesi Quartey.
