Rains result in damage to billboards

A rainstorm last Sunday night pulled down huge billboards on the Kasoa Obom Road in the Central Region and blocked major access roads.

The storm, which lasted for about two hours, caused heavy traffic on the road last Monday morning, leaving both drivers and other road users stranded.

After hours of being stucked in the heavy traffic, some good Samaritans moved a number of the make shift structures along the road to create a temporary route for cars.

Kiosks, tables and containers used as shops were pushed out of the way to make room for the drivers to move freely.

However, due to the small nature of the temporary route, the cars had to move slowly and most at times wait to take turns as cars driving in opposite direction had to use the same path.

Some angry drivers who spoke to the Daily Graphic blamed the local municipal authority for giving permits for the erection of the huge billboards without any feasibility study with regards to their ability to withstand storms.

A driver, Yusif Suleiman, in an interview, said the situation could easily cause an accident leading loss of lives.

He, therefore, appealed to the local authority to remove all the collapsed billboards and also secure the road against such occurrences.
