The robbers, armed with a shotgun, machetes, knife and a sharpened iron rod, had waylaid their victim at the entrance to his house, marched him into his living  room, tied him up and ordered him to keep mute or get killed.

The robbers then ransacked the rooms and made away with a booty comprising four suitcases containing personal effects and GH¢1,500.

The five-member gang– Mohammed Abdul, aka Mamuda, 36, Moses Brown, alias Junor, 25, Emeka Okoro Sani, 32, Kofi Mensah, aka Fiifi, 41, and Nana Yaw Osei, 30 – are facing two counts of conspiracy and robbery.

Their pleas were not taken pending further police investigations and a directive from the Attorney-General’s Department in Cape Coast.

The presiding judge of the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court, Mr Yaw Atta Sampong, performing additional duties at the Agona Swedru Circuit Court, remanded the five into custody awaiting the outcome of the police’s findings and advice from the A-G’s department.

Inspector Alfred Boatey, the prosecutor, said at about 9 p.m. on June 5, 2013, the complainant was about to alight from his car on his return home from town when the gang pounced on him and escorted him into the house where they robbed him.

The prosecutor said investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of Abdul at Akyem Oda where the complainant (Donkor), identified a shirt and a men’s necklace worn by Abdul at the time of the arrest as part of the stolen items.

Inspector Boatey said a search conducted in Abdul’s room uncovered a live BB cartridge, assorted clothings, necklaces, watches, a wall clock, sunglasses, assorted footwear, Toyota and Mitsubishi ignition keys.

He said the complainant again identified those items as part of his belongings.

The prosecutor said Abdul named Osei as his accomplice and led the police to arrest him at his hideout in a slum behind the Arts Centre in Accra.

According to Inspector Boatey, the Greater Accra Police Command, on September 17, 2013, arrested and brought to the station Brown, Sani (a Nigerian), Mensah, as well as Abdul and Osei.

While Abdul admitted the offence in his caution statement, the rest denied the allegations and denied ever knowing Abdul, the prosecutor said.
