Sekesua residents laud govt for development

The chiefs and residents of Sekesua, a farming community in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region, have lauded the government for the numerous development activities it had brought to the area.

They mentioned particularly the ongoing construction of a community day senior high school which is expected to be opened in 2016 as a major scheme that would open up the district to more business ventures.

Addressing a news conference at the chief’s palace, the spokesperson of the community, Mr John Kumi, said the government’s decision to extend electricity to some areas of the community was evidence that the area “has been remembered”.

“We believe that the current developments taking places at the community are signs that our plea to the government has been given a listening ear” he said.

Neglect

Mr Kumi said over the past years, past governments had neglected the community and left the residents to attend to its various development challenges.

He mentioned the deplorable road network as one of the major challenges hindering the community from plying their trade in noted business hubs in the district.

Apart from the road network, Mr Kumi said the absence of electricity in the area also affected small and medium scale enterprises within the district to grow their activities.

“The extension of electricity to Akateng and other areas has paved way for smooth economic operations within the district,” he said.

Government’s commitment

The Member of Parliament of the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency, Mr Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, stressed the governments continuous commitment to improve the living conditions of neglected communities in the country.

He said the construction of the new SHS and the connection of the community to the national grid formed part of the government’s programme to develop the Sekesua community.

According to the MP, plans were far advanced for the construction of a new market for the community, adding that when completed, the market would transform the area and pave way for massive business operations.
