Silkpaints assists Ghana Institute of Construction

Silkpaints Ghana, producer of high quality paints, has presented a cheque for GH¢10, 000 towards the first ever Construction Excellence Awards by the Ghana Institute of Construction.

The maiden award, which also marks the 20th anniversary of the institute, will be used to recognise and honour 20 companies and individuals who have contributed to quality and growth in the industry.

Receiving the amount, the President of the Ghana Institute of Construction (GIOC), Prof. Joshua Ayarkwa, applauded Silkpaints for supporting the activities of the institute and the Department of Building Technology of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) over the years.

 Awardees

Prof. Ayarkwa said currently, experts in the field, using very strict and time-tested criteria, had scrutinised and assessed the selected 20 awardees for the maiden ceremony.

He mentioned specifically the collaboration between the department and the Silkpaints in researching into products the latter brought to the market as a means of giving credence to the quality of the products and also provide the end user empirical information about the product.

He told the Daily Graphic that currently, the department and Silkcoat Paints were undertaking a research into a solvent product meant to address the issue of dumping, a situation where the paint on the lower portion of structure tends to peel off few months after painting.

Prof. Ayarkwa said although the initial test indicated positive and promising prospects, the department wanted to complete the research so that customers could have a paint that would address the problem of dumping.

 ‘Honour corporate entities’

The Sales and Marketing Manager of Silkpaints Ghana, Mr Sarfo Acheampong, said Silkpaints Ghana received a request from the institute about their decision to honour corporate entities who had excelled in the building industry and decided to assist in ensuring a successful awards.

He said their partnership with the department and the institute was based on the Silkpaints Ghana’s interests in using empirically ascertained information about its products before they were released onto the market.

He said over the years, Silkpaints Ghana had also partnered the department in training painters in the proper uses of paints of all forms to attain effectiveness and efficiency, including research into other related areas.
