SG Ghana has committed itself to the Shelter for Abused Children for the last five years.

Shelter For Abused Children In Osu

The Shelter for Abused Children is a temporary shelter run by the Department of Social Welfare since October 2003.

The shelter serves as a referral point for organisations working to protect the interest of children in the country, especially the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

These agencies normally request for care and protection for victims of child abuse while their cases are pending proceedings. The children are taken through psycho-social and medical rehabilitation.

The Deputy Managing Director of the Bank, Mr Francois Marchal, said the essence of the celebration was to choose a project that would have an impact on the community and more importantly, staff of the bank should be committed to the project.

“This year, Societe Generale Ghana is renovating the Shelter’s assembly hall, children’s play room and staff office which need maintenance to continue to function as desired.

The bank’s employees, who are here today, will complete this task by painting the structures. Further, Societe Generale Ghana staff will also assist in cleaning the Shelter and interact with the children on various levels to serve as an inspiration to them,” he said.

“The Societe Generale Group has on its calendar every year in June, a time dedicated to serving communities where all Societe Generale entities demonstrate the bank’s commitment to solidarity,” Mr Marchal said.

In a welcome address, the shelter’s manageress, Georgina Mensah, said SG Ghana had committed itself to the Shelter for Abused Children for the last five years and they were delighted , grateful and honoured to have staff from SG Ghana participate in this year’s event.

She noted that the activities for the day would leave smiles on the faces of the staff and children by giving the less- privileged in society, the opportunity to learn and live in clean shelters through the bank’s renovation of the assembly and ICT blocks.

She added that the social interaction, clean up, games and the other activities would impact positively on the lives of the children.
