Sixty young people from across the country have completed a five-day skills development boot camp organised by SOS Children’s Villages Ghana to prepare them for employment and entrepreneurship.
The GoTeach Employability and Entrepreneurial Skills Boot Camp 2025 took place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, at the organisation’s programme location in Tema.
It was held under the theme, “Empowering young people with employability and entrepreneurial skills for evolving work environments.”
The participants, made up of 30 young women and 30 young men, were drawn from SOS Ghana’s Alternative Care, Family Strengthening and Protecting the Future projects in Tema, Asiakwa, Kumasi and Tamale.
Supported by DHL Ghana, the annual event offered practical training, mentorship and industry exposure to prepare participants for work and self-employment.
Opening the camp, the National Youth Development Advisor of SOS CV Ghana, Mr Godknows K. Kporha, said the programme was designed to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and mindset needed to compete in today’s job market.
He urged participants to take the lessons seriously and apply them in their personal and professional lives.
The National Director of SOS CV Ghana, Mr Alexander Mar Kekula, said such interventions play an important role in addressing youth unemployment.
He encouraged the young people to believe in their abilities and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the programme.
Representatives of DHL Ghana, Madam Josephine Aryeetey and Mr Benjamin Bello, told the participants that qualifications alone do not guarantee jobs. They said employers also look for practical skills, discipline and creativity, and urged the trainees to make the most of the learning experience.
The camp covered a wide range of topics, including career planning, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, job search strategies, CV writing, interview preparation, time management and personal branding.
Resource persons from The Learning Organisation, the University of Ghana, Africa ICT Right, AmaliTech and Data Bank led interactive sessions and practical exercises.
One of the key activities was a career fair, where partner organisations including DHL, AmaliTech, Data Bank, Africa ICT Right and SOS CV Ghana set up booths to interact with the participants. The young people engaged with employers, explored career pathways and received mentorship on workplace culture and how to succeed in the job market.
The final day of the camp focused on ICT, technology trends and environmental sustainability.
Sessions included training on digital tools, coding and social media marketing, as well as discussions on the causes and effects of environmental degradation and solutions at both community and individual levels.
At the closing ceremony, the Managing Director of DHL Express Ghana, Mr Morgan Oluko, commended the participants for their effort and creativity.
He encouraged them to pursue leadership, integrity and a strong work ethic as they build their careers and businesses.
Certificates were awarded to all participants at the end of the camp.
The GoTeach Boot Camp forms part of SOS CV Ghana’s wider youth development programmes aimed at bridging the gap between formal education and the demands of the modern workplace.
