SOSEC which started on a humble note through community initiative by 25 founding fathers of Agbozume was established on October 7, 1966 and was known as the Agbozume Secondary School (AGBOSCHO) with 34 students.

It was absorbed into the public education system by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in September 1977 and given the name Some Secondary School and today known as Some Senior High School just like any Ghanaian secondary school with an enrolment of 1050 students.

In an address, the headmaster of the school, Mr K.K Ahafia said the school had so far chalked a lot of successes but was experiencing a number of growing challenges which if not checked will out match the successes.

Golden jubilee as platform for foundation

He therefore said the celebration was a platform to establish the foundation to brainstorm and to offer a helping hand in an attempt to finding a solution to some of the many challenges the school was facing.

‘It is the time to assess the challenges facing the school now. It is the time to explore avenues to expand facilities to accommodate the increasing student population”, he stated.

Mr Ahafia said the school administrative block had leakages, limited space, decaying props, poor ventilation, outdated electrical wiring system, inadequate rooms for various offices which were metaphorically competing with the living mice and cockroaches that always resist any quit order.

Cradle of education

In a solidarity message, the acting Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr M.A.K Buadi noted that the school had established itself as a cradle of education in its own right among the second cycle institutions in the Volta Region.

He paid a glowing tribute to the founders and the people of Some traditional area for their initiative, foresight and determination adding that the time had come for all to think outside the box and come out with innovative ideas and strategies to transform the school.

Mr Buadi said good rapport coupled with commitment to duty were the requirements to transform schools and that it was for playing respective roles well so as to live a blue-print for the next generation.

Impact on national development

Speaking on the theme, 50years in the life of Some Senior High School: the impact of national development, the challenges and prospects” the guest speaker, Mr Albert Agbesi Wornyo said the school had contributed immensely to the human resource base of the nation by producing inexhaustible list of high caliber of products.

He said starting from a humble beginning, it had served the community well in addition to surrounding communities.

He called on past students organized in year groups to join forces to assist in the development of the school and advised students not to complain too much and rise against school authorities but should commit themselves to their studies.
