Joseph Tetteh, 24, is suspected to have executed the crime with the help of Aryerh Adjei, a nephew of the car owner.

Adjei is, however, on the run.

The owner of the 207 Benz bus found the vehicle at Agbogbloshie after it had been stolen from his house at Teshie in Accra.

Vehicle missing at 2 a.m.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Teshie District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Simon Agbodeka said about 2 a.m. on September 2, 2014, the owner of the vehicle, Mr Daniel Adjei, who is also the driver of the bus, woke up to realise that it had been stolen.

“On the previous night, Mr Adjei had parked the vehicle, with registration number GR 1305 X, in his compound, but while he was asleep the two suspects drove it out and sent it to Agbogbloshie and sold it,” he said.

He said Mr Adjei lodged a complaint at the Teshie Police Station and ‘we mounted a search for the vehicle”.

During the search, the Teshie Police Commander said the owner of the bus found his vehicle being cut into scraps at Agbogbloshie.

“On seeing the men at work on his vehicle, he quickly went to the Agbogbloshie Police Station for assistance but those cutting the vehicle abandoned it and bolted on seeing the police,” Mr Agbodeka said.

Suspect arrested

On September 3, 2014, Tetteh was arrested when he went to Agbogbloshie, claiming that he had been sent by the nephew of the vehicle owner, Aryerh Adjei, to collect the proceeds from the scrapped vehicle.

The two, according to the Teshie Police Commander, had planned to share the proceeds.

“With the help of some Good Samaritans, the Agbogbloshie police managed to arrest Tetteh at Agbogbloshie and handed him over to the Teshie Police,” he said.

Mr Agbodeka said Tetteh allegedly admitted stealing the vehicle with his accomplice, Aryerh Adjei, and selling it to the scrap dealer.
