The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotics during an intelligence-led operation at Sege Akplabanya in the Greater Accra Region.

A press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Tema and dated February 18, 2026, said the operation took place on February 15, 2026, at about 0010 hours by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit.

According to the statement, the operation led to the interception of a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14.

The police said the vehicle was loaded with fertiliser sacks containing a total of 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs, described as cannabis.

On sighting the police, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters for further investigations.

Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and verify ownership of the vehicle.

In a related development, the police said two suspects, Victor Asigbey, aged 40, and Peter Asigbey, aged 35, were arrested on February 16, 2026, at about 1910 hours for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers at the Regional Criminal Investigation Department Office in Tema.

According to the statement, the suspects offered GH¢150,000 in an attempt to unlawfully influence officers to release the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances.

Police said the money had been retrieved and kept as an exhibit.

The suspects remain in police custody, assisting investigations and were expected to be arraigned before the court on February 18, 2026.

The Tema Regional Police Command said it would continue to act against narcotic-related offences and uphold standards of integrity in the discharge of its duties.
