Traffic Lights at Graphic Road-Adabraka Intersection finally operational

The traffic lights at the Graphic Road-Adabraka Official Town intersection, near the Graphic Communications Group Limited, are finally functioning.

The previously non-functioning traffic lights, which had been a source of frustration for motorists and pedestrians alike, also caused accidents in the past as cars jostled for the right of way.

In their absence, drivers manoeuvred haphazardly, sometimes coming into accidents and threatening pedestrians’ safety.

An Uber driver who spoke to Graphic Online today expressed surprise upon reaching the traffic light and having to stop en route from Adabraka Official Town.

"Ei, the traffic light dey work," he said.

According to some Adabraka residents and staff of companies along Graphic Road, the traffic lights at the intersection had not functioned for several years.

A taxi driver, Darlington Cabbi, expressed his approval of the newly functioning traffic lights at the Graphic Road intersection, stating that it would encourage commercial vehicles to slow down when descending from the bridge.

"Whenever the drivers are descending, they overspeed, and there is a crossing at the Graphic junction. So I think it is a good thing because, anytime they see the traffic light, they will minimize their speed," he said.

A local resident named Kate, however, viewed the repairs as a political move, especially since it’s an election year. She suggested that the authorities fixed the traffic lights only to gain public favour for votes.

She further mentioned that the traffic lights had been non-functional for years despite several reports to the assembly. "We were surprised and happy when they finally came to fix it yesterday evening," she added.

A market woman, Margaret Tettey Wayo, noted that the traffic lights hadn’t been working for as long as she had been at Graphic Road, and it was only yesterday that she saw them being repaired.

She highlighted the importance of the traffic lights in helping both drivers and pedestrians understand when to stop or move, which would, in turn, reduce accidents.

Additionally, she mentioned that previously, commercial drivers would drop passengers off at the wrong stops, sometimes even at the main intersection, but the functioning traffic lights should now curb such behaviour.
