Though they pleaded not guilty to the two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwah, found them guilty and convicted them accordingly.

They were each sentenced to 22 years in hard labour.

Their two accomplices, whose names were only given as China and Kobbi, are, however, at large.

Facts

Presenting the facts, Ms Cecilia Animah Peprah, State Prosecutor,  told  the  court  that  on  January  8,  2013,  at  about  8 p.m., the complainant, together with a friend, visited a drinking bar at Asafo.

She   said   Tamakloe   decided to go home around 3 a.m. According to her, few minutes after he left the bar, he heard someone shouting at him to stop.

“When he stopped, the first accused person, Awudu Samead Kumfa, held him by the trousers. Shortly afterwards, the other three accused persons also joined the first accused person,” she said.

She said according to the complainant, when the others joined, one of them hit his mouth with a bottle and he sustained injuries on his upper lip while the others subjected him to beatings.

Ms Peprah said in the course of the beatings, the second accused person took the complainant’s Nokia phone valued at GH¢200 and cash of GH¢80.

She said people later came to his rescue and the case was later reported to the police leading to the arrest of the convicts after investigations.
