Funded by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Safe Water Network, it would produce 2.6 million litres per month to serve over 8,000 people at Dzakiti and Dzemeni who had endured acute water problems over the years.

At the inauguration of the facility, the Chief Executive of Safe Water Network, Mr Kurt Soderlund, said the inauguration of the facility was a significant milestone for the area because of the inherent benefits, and urged the people to take good care of it.

The Country Director of Safe Water Network, Mr Charles Nimako, said a total of 1.6 million people in 60 communities of the country had benefited from the NGO’s water systems, adding that the facility was the third system installed in the South Dayi District.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, called on the NGO and other partners to expand their operations in the region to help increase water coverage in the region from the current 63.67 per cent to 100 per cent by the close of this year.

He advised the people to avoid practices which had led to the pollution of water bodies.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Mr Edem Asimah, said the provision of the facility fell in line with the government’s better Ghana agenda and expressed the hope that it would translate into good hygienic practices by the people.

The acting Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Mr Konadu Owusu, said the model was unique, and expressed the hope that it would help improve the health of the people.

The South Dayi District Chief Executive, Mr Kafui Semenu Bekui, thanked the donors for their support.
