Work to enhance quality of education — Committee tasked

A 10-Member Executive Committee of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) in the Upper West Region (UWR) has been inaugurated to help improve the quality of education in the country.

It has Dr Damasus Tuurosang, a Lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus, who is also the Proprietor of the Tupaso Complex School, Wa, as the regional chairman.

In his inaugural address, Mr Steve Revss, the national Vice- President of GNAPS, urged the committee to work hard to enhance quality education and commended them for being the newest and fastest growing association in the country, with 35 registered members.

He advised them to register the Early Childhood Development Centres with the Department of Social Welfare, as mandated by law. He also urged them to be united and transparent in their activities to ensure that the association would be vibrant in the region.

Commendation

The UWR Coordinator at the Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of private schools, Mr Hafiz Bin-Salih, commended the association for complementing government’s efforts to provide quality education for the numerous children in the country.

That he said, was a positive step to equip the people with skills to enable them to access opportunities on the job market and efficiently manage the environment.

Exams malpractices

Mr Bin-Salih advised them not to condone examination malpractices, making reference to the recent cancellation of some subjects in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the effect it had on the students.

He assured them of government’s support for their schools’ efforts to provide the necessary human resources for the development of the country.
