The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested six persons in connection with the alleged murder of a 26-year-old tricycle rider, Akolbila Blessing, at Dulugu-Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.
The six suspects, according to the police, allegedly attacked and beat the victim following a dispute over sales from a tricycle he was operating.
They have been identified as Avandiba Atubiga Kante, 26; Atua Atombire Mpika, 40; Amale Nyaaba Nicholas, 30; Atua Ayinbotima, 22; Atuah Nsobila Prosper, 21; and Ayine Albert Sunday, 39.
Alleged dispute over sales
A police statement said preliminary investigation by the police indicated that the incident occurred on August 27, 2026, after the victim allegedly failed to make sales to the owner of the tricycle, identified as Mpika.
The police said the disagreement reportedly escalated, resulting in the six suspects allegedly attacking and beating Mr Akolbila.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack the police said are still being investigated by the police.
Victim found unconscious
The police said victim was reportedly found unconscious in his room the following day and was subsequently conveyed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The arrest of the six suspects forms part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances leading to his death.
The police are expected to continue with investigations to establish the individual roles of the suspects and the events that culminated in the death of the tricycle rider.
Police caution public
The Upper East Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against resorting to violence as a means of resolving disputes.
The Command said disputes should instead be reported to the appropriate authorities for peaceful and lawful resolution.
It also assured the public of its commitment to enforcing the law and bringing persons found culpable to justice.
The Command urged members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to provide it to the police.
