Bishop Dag Heward Mills celebrates Vice President Bawumia’s presence at 31st Night Service
The newly built auditorium of the Lighthouse Chapel at East Legon was filled with excitement on New Year’s Eve as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, joined the congregation for their 31st Watch Night Service.
Described by the church as a "historic" occasion, the Vice President's visit marked the first time a high-ranking government official had graced the congregation with their presence. The service was led by the church’s founder and leader, Bishop Dag Heward Mills, who warmly welcomed Dr. Bawumia and his entourage.
"I am happy to announce the presence of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife," said Bishop Heward Mills to resounding cheers from the congregation. "I am so happy because this is the first time we are having a President or a Vice President. What a blessing."
Gratitude and faith
Addressing the congregation as the Special Guest of the service, Dr. Bawumia began by extending heartfelt wishes for the New Year.
"Let me wish everybody a Happy New Year. Let’s wish for greater and better and greater tidings this New Year," he said, eliciting roars of excitement from the audience.
Reflecting on the recently concluded elections, the Vice President expressed his gratitude to God for His blessings upon himself and the nation. "We have gone through an election, and I want to thank God for His blessings to myself and to the country Ghana," he remarked.
Drawing inspiration from scripture, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of gratitude in all circumstances. "The book of Thessalonians Chapter 5 Verse 18 tells us that in all things, give thanks to God. And for me, I have abiding faith in the Lord. And so what He has done for us, we are giving thanks to Him," he said.
He expressed optimism about the future, adding, "I know and I believe that God has a plan for me for greater and better days in the future."
Appreciation
Flanked by his wife, Samira, the Vice President thanked Bishop Heward Mills and the congregation for their warm reception.
"I want to thank all of you for giving us the opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year. God bless you, and God bless Ghana," Dr. Bawumia concluded.
The service, which brought together worshippers to pray and celebrate the dawn of 2025, was filled with joy and reverence.
