Bryan Acheampong said ‘Bawumia was a victim, not cause of conflict’ between Mamprusi-Kusasi - Campaign team

The campaign team of Dr Bryan Acheampong has reacted to a video circulating on social media which shows Dr Acheampong suggesting that the New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful blamed former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the campaign described the footage as a “mischievously edited” clip that distorted the original message.

It clarified that Dr Acheampong had, in fact, referred to Dr Bawumia as a “victim of circumstance” and not a cause of division.

The team stressed that Dr Acheampong held deep respect for Dr Bawumia’s leadership and his contributions towards peacebuilding, adding that his remarks had been taken out of context.

The statement further noted that the issue of tribal tensions had been deliberately exploited by political opponents during the 2024 elections to undermine the New Patriotic Party’s performance in some key regions.

It stated that the party must confront these challenges with unity and foresight if it is to regain its ground.

“Dr Acheampong’s message is not about division,” the campaign insisted. “It is about rallying the NPP around a winning strategy and candidate. His campaign is anchored on unity, transparency, and results.”

The campaign team urged party members and the general public to disregard sensationalised clips and instead listen to the full recording of Dr Acheampong’s comments before concluding.
