Dr Nduom to storm Talensi

The 2012 Presidential Candidate and a founder member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, will storm Talensi in the Upper East Region to add his political weight to canvas for votes for the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Talensi by-election scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

Already, the national executive members and stalwarts of the party, led by Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, the party’s national chairman, are in Talensi working hard to win the hearts and minds of the electorate.

Additionally, the Volunteers for Nduom 2016 (VN16), an organisation of young people in Ghana who believe in the leadership of Dr Nduom as the one capable of solving the many problems facing the country when given the mandate as President, are also in Talensi canvassing for votes for the party’s candidate.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in a telephone interview yesterday, Dr Nduom, who cut short his trip abroad to lend his support to Mr Joseph Toatoba, the PPP’s parliamentary candidate, said “we are using the by-election to introduce the PPP and its parliamentary candidate to the constituents of Talensi.
“This is a strategic rehearsal for the 2016 election and we are investing for the future,” he said.

He stressed that the PPP was in Talensi to press home its positive message of incorruptible leadership, as well as job creation.

Taxpayer’s money

Dr Nduom expressed grave concern about reports coming from Talensi that the by-election was going to be bought and that it was being funded with the poor taxpayer’s money.

He said the misuse of government cars and other resources for purposes of political campaigns must stop.

He asked who fuelled saloon cars and four wheel drives and paid for the hotel bills of the government people in the constituency.

Dr Nduom further wondered why suddenly some abandoned projects and new ones were being undertaken.

According to Dr Nduom, a similar thing happened during the Wulensi by-election in 2012, where the taxpayer’s money was missued.

He asked “should MPs resign for by-elections to be organised before the people know that there is a government or government merely exists for elections.”

Dr Nduom, therefore, warned that the taxpayer’s money must not be used for purposes of political campaigns and challenged the Ghanaian electorate to reject all political parties who used money to win elections and abandon them once political power was won.

New EC boss

While welcoming Mrs Charlotte Osei, the new boss at the Electoral Commission, Dr Nduom asked her to be firm, principled and deal with all political parties who flouted the political party laws, especially on party financing.

On the part of PPP, Dr Nduom gave the assurance that the party would always campaign on its track record and hopefully, the Ghanaian electorate would give them the mandate to rule.
