He said such campaign must be devoid of insults, personal attacks, mudslinging and name-calling.

In a  message to delegates of the NPP for the successful conduct of the regional executive elections held last Saturday, the FOPA extended their congratulatory message to all elected regional officers and urged them to quickly put the results of the elections behind them and work together with those who lost the elections.

The FOPA is an interest group campaigning for the election of Mr Paul Afoko as the next National Chairman of the NPP.

The statement, signed by the National Co-ordinator of FOPA, Aminu Catey, and released in Accra, said the peaceful outcome of the regional elections held simultaneously across the country was an indication that majority of the party’s supporters were willing to forge ahead in unity.

It said the re-organisation of the party’s structures from the grass roots to the national level would ensure a decisive victory in 2016.

The statement called on supporters and footsoldiers of the party across the country to embark on house-to-house campaign within their electoral areas to educate the people on the failed policies of the Mahama-led NDC administration and also to present the alternative policies of the NPP to promote good governance and enhance the welfare of all Ghanaians when voted into office.

The statement said as the NPP prepared to hold its national executive elections, it ought not disappoint the good people of Ghana by any mistake that would affect the party’s chances of winning the 2016 elections hence, the appeal to elect Mr Afoko as National Chairman.

It said Mr Afoko was the best and most resourceful candidate in the race for national chairmanship to promote unity and also ensure that the NPP recaptures power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Mr Afoko has plans to restructure and motivate the party’s organisational structures into an election-winning machine to recapture power irrespective of who becomes flagbearer for the 2016 election”, it  said.

It described Mr Afoko as a true party member who was interested in working for the collective interest of the party and therefore traced his roots to the United Party (UP) tradition led by Prof. Kofi. Abrefa Busia.

Although the current leadership had contributed their quota, the statement said it was important that under the present circumstance, others such as Mr Afoko assume the position of national chairman to improve on the party’s performance in the next elections.
