Asuogyaman MP supports disabled with cornmill project in Anum

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has commissioned a cornmill project in Anum to support persons with disabilities in the community.

The project, personally funded by Mr Ampem Nyarko, who is also the Deputy Minister of Finance, is to provide a sustainable source of income for members of the Anum Disabled Association.

The cornmill project has been strategically sited near the town’s main market, close to the Anum Rural Bank, while the information centre is located within the Theodosia Oko Enclave, to bring services closer to the people.

Livelihoods

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Ampem Nyarko expressed his commitment to improving the livelihoods of persons with disabilities in the area.

"I was deeply moved by the plight of persons with disabilities in this community and I decided to invest in a project that would give them hope and improve their lives," he said.

“This project is for all disabled persons here. In addition to this, there will also be individual support for the over 45 members of the Anum Disabled Association in the future,” he stated.

The MP called on the general public to patronise the cornmill facility to ensure its sustainability and enable it to serve its intended purpose.

He further urged members of the association to constitute a project management team to manage the venture prudently, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the use of proceeds.

Appreciation

The President of the Anum Disabled Association, George Odei, thanked the MP for what he described as a pleasant surprise and assured that the association would take all necessary steps to ensure the cornmil project serves its intended purpose.

He also called on other persons with disabilities in the community to register with the association in order to benefit from collective support.

The Adontenghene of the Anum Traditional Area, Nyenye Kwasi Nyane, commended Mr Ampem Nyarko for his foresight and appealed for more projects to be extended to Anum to accelerate economic growth.
